Wannée cookbook,Cookbook from the Amsterdam Housekeeping School, or simply Amsterdam cookbook is a classic cookbook for the Dutch kitchen. Since the first edition in 1910, it has been reprinted more than thirty times!
The cookbook was originally written as a textbook for the Amsterdam Housekeeping School. There, the girls (the school was not open to boys) were prepared for a profession such as housekeeper or maid, or prepared for their classic role as a housewife. The social class division of the time continued into education, with classes for students from different backgrounds and social environments.
Very conscious of this social situation Cornelia Wannée (1880–1932) starting putting a cookbook together with recipes for the so-called stew, Bourgeois and the fine French cuisine. Ten years later, forty thousand copies had already been sold. Because the cookbook is adapted with each reprint to reflect the taste of the times and the latest insights nutrition, it is unabated popular. Through the AmsterdamVOC-trading history, the Wannée Cookbook is characterized by a rich use of spices.

The original teaching task is still noticeable, with additional information remaining ingredients and cooking techniques. The illustrations consist of overview photos of ingredients and explanatory drawings. The predominantly simple recipe is mainly Dutch, with French accents. The separate boxes with regional products between the recipes are nice. Foreign cuisine receives little attention, but you cannot include everything in a book. This 1984 edition is still an old-fashioned Dutch coocbook.
